Who is involved in the Wootton Community Network?

The Brush Turkey cafe was constructed over four years by volunteers, with money provided through a grant. It was opened in 2004 and provided a training ground for young adults to learn hospitality and internet skills. Today it is used for community dinners and events run by local volunteers.

Where is Wootton?

Wootton is located 20 kilometers north of Bulahdelah on the Mid North Coast of NSW. It lies on Wootton Way between Bulahdelah and Coolongolook. Wootton Way was originally part of the Pacific Highway until 1999 when the Wootton village was bypassed by the M1 Freeway.

What do activities occur?

The Wootton Hall houses a community library that is open to the public during any community event held in the hall, the Brush Turkey Café or the surrounding grounds and on Fridays.

Monthly Food Swaps are held on the forecourt of the hall on the second Saturday of the month during spring, summer and autumn. A food swap is an event where anyone can bring anything that is homemade or homegrown. For example, fruit and vegetables, pickles, jams and preserves, eggs, cordials, bread, cakes and slices, seedlings, bulbs and so on.

Quarterly community events are held in the hall on the last Saturday of the month in March, June and September. These are commonly bring-a-plate to share dinners.

What does it mean to be part of the Great Lakes Food Trail?

To encourage community spirit and sustainable development.
